Dear friends, we are pleased to present to your attention video from the Opening Ceremony of the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. The ceremony is titled “Visiting Tchaikovsky’s Home” and was recorded in the Tchaikovsky Museum-Reserve in Klin! A fascinating tour of the house of Pyotr Ilyich, where he lived and worked late in his life, awaits you. The ceremony is complete with a wonderful concert in the living room of Pyotr Ilyich by the jury members of the competition, professors of the Moscow State Conservatory Alexander Strukov (piano) and Kirill Rodin (cello). Ivan Shcherbak, General Director of the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition, addressed the participants, their parents, teachers and members of the jury with a welcoming speech.
We thank the Director of the Museum Igor Kornilov for an informative and exciting tour which allowed us all to plunge into the atmosphere of the life and life of Pyotr Ilyich. We express our special gratitude to the State Tchaikovsky Memorial Musical Museum for many years of cooperation and support of the competition!
This year 128 musicians from 14 countries were selected to participate in the auditions in three nominations of the competition (“Piano”, “Violin”, “Cello”). Their performances will be evaluated by a competent international jury, consisting of more than 30 outstanding teachers and figures of musical culture from 12 countries.
Online auditions of the first and second rounds of the competition will be held from October 23 to November 1. The place and time of the live auditions of the third round will be announced later.
Since its foundation in 1992 the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians was held in 6 countries and 9 cities. Initially, the 11th competition was scheduled to be held in the traditional format of live auditions in 2020 in Chengdu (China). However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the dates of the competition were changed several times. Due to the fact that China still has strict quarantine restrictions, Administration of the competition decided to hold the first two rounds of the competition in the format of online auditions. The third round will be held in the format traditional for the competition live face-to-face auditions, accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
