The organizing Committee of the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians regrets to inform you that the dates of the competition have been changed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Previously, the competition had already been postponed, but due to ongoing quarantine measures and restrictions on international air traffic, it was decided to postpone the dates to 1-12 October, 2021. Acceptance of applications for participation in the competition has been extended until September 2, 2021. Musicians who have applied for participation in the competition but will not able to participate due to exceeding the age limit, will be invited to participate in the International Tchaikovsky Festival for Young Musicians, and they will also be fully refunded their application fees.
General Director of the contest Ivan Scherbak commented on the current situation: “In 2020, the whole world faced an unprecedented pandemic that affected the lives of each of us. As we stated earlier, the health and safety of the guests of the competition, young participants, their relatives and teachers is of primary importance to us. After negotiations with representatives of the city administration of Chengdu, the Sichuan Conservatory and our partners from the Chai Yin company, we made a joint decision to postpone the competition to October 2021. At the same time, I would like to express my confidence that this year the competition will be held in accordance with the current schedule, since the process of mass vaccination has already begun around the world. The administration of the competition makes every possible effort to hold this important cultural event at the highest organizational and creative level”.
Currently, more than 350 young musicians from 23 countries have applied to participate in the competition in China. According to the competition rules, no more than 60 participants in each specialty will be allowed to participate in the competition. By February 15, 2021, the Organizing Committee will contact all musicians who have already submitted applications to participate in the competition to clarify the possibility of their participation in the new dates.
